It is very noticeable that interest in the Affair of the Two Rennes has waned significantly over the last few years. Most researchers seem to have gone to ground or at the very least are participating on private non-inclusive forums. Perhaps this interest has dissipated after years of relentless insults thrown at individual researchers who dared put their particular theory 'out there'.
This noticeable decline in interest and attention, not only to be found in England but also in Europe and the USA, is because of the insistence given by some in attempting to demonstrate, at all costs, that the famous parchments of the Rennes Affair are unreliable. Was this a deliberate effort to definitively shut down any spotlight on these 'parchments', reducing the affair to a skilful mystification (the French say intoxication) hatched by Plantard, Chérisey and others in the Priory of Sion? If these attempts to rubbish the parchments are successful, then the whole affair could also be rubbished!
If this hypothesis is correct it needs to be 'countered'. But it needs to be countered with intelligent thoughtful analysis of the whole affair and not to veer off track into the wacky world of theories involving UFO's and the like.
Luckily for us - a researcher has arrived who has indeed bucked this trend. I refer of course to the wonderful new book; THE MAP AND THE MANUSCRIPT. The analysis of the Parchments in this new book - for me - is a game-changer requiring a paradigm shift! His discoveries and deductions of the RENNES CELTIQUE map are sublime.
I think it is important to have a place that genuine enthusiasts' can get involved with and contribute to research, new ideas, new ways of thinking when dealing with this Affair! I anticipate that the Forum will be a slow burner - but this facility will remain here - until such time that the subject is lit up again with genuine historical researchers with interesting things to say! I think this time has arrived!
Like Saunière's colleague Henri Boudet we are all trying to 'penetrate the secret of a local history'.
If the Affair is indeed a 'skilful intoxication' it is not because it is a hoax created by some, but because it is a modern ludibrium - showing us that there really was and is more to the 'story' of Saunière and Boudet & the events surrounding them and that the story has not yet been seen in it's 'true light'.
I therefore invite you to discover or rather rediscover with a fresh eye the ... "mystery" of Rennes-le-Château!
